Veteran Odisha Journalist Ratikanta Mohanty Passes Away

Bhubaneswar:19/4/25:Veteran journalist Ratikanta Mohanty, a revered figure in Odisha’s media fraternity, breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Saturday morning.

He was 70 years old and had been battling kidney-related ailments for the past few years.

Mohanty, known for his four-decade-long career in journalism, was a trailblazer in political reporting, earning immense respect for his integrity and insightful coverage. His passing has left a void in Odisha’s media landscape.

Condolences Pour In: Leaders from across the political spectrum mourned his demise. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan extended heartfelt condolences. Majhi recalled Mohanty’s honesty and impartiality, acknowledging his significant contribution to journalism.

Former CM Naveen Patnaik’s statement highlighted Mohanty’s unwavering dedication to his profession, describing him as an iconic journalist and noble human being.

Mohanty is survived by his wife Sipra and daughters Puja and Bandana. As Odisha bids farewell to a stalwart of journalism, his legacy of truthful reporting and ethical journalism will continue to inspire future generations.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed deep grief over his demise. In an X post, he wrote,

“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear about the passing of veteran journalist Ratikanta Mohanty. As “Rati Bhai,” he was widely recognised in Odisha’s social and political circles. His long and illustrious career in journalism will be remembered for its honesty, impartiality, and dedication. I pray for his eternal peace and extend my heartfelt condolences to his grieving family. Om Shanti”.
