Bhubaneswar:28/10/26:The Odisha Legislative Assembly has published its provisional calendar of sittings for the Eighth Session of the Seventeenth Assembly, setting the stage for a busy winter session that opens on Wednesday, November 18, 2026.
According to the official schedule, the session will begin with Official Business and the presentation of the First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for the year 2026-2027. The following day, Nov 19, is also earmarked for Official Business, while Friday, Nov 20, has been reserved for Private Members’ Business covering Bills and Resolutions.
Sittings will continue on Saturday, Nov21, and Monday, Nov 23. The Assembly will observe a holiday on Tuesday, Nov 24, on account of Rasa Purnima. The three subsequent days — Nov 25, 26 and 27 — have been dedicated to Demands for Grants on the First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure. After the weekend break, the Appropriation Bill on the same Supplementary Statement is scheduled for Monday, Nov 30.
December will see a steady mix of Official Business and Private Members’ Business. Fridays on Dec 4, 11, 18 and 29, as well as Thursday, Dec 31, have been allotted for Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions. The Assembly will remain closed on Christmas Day (Friday, Dec 25) and observe no-meeting days on the surrounding weekend of Dec 26-27. Sittings are planned right through to the end of the month, with Official Business listed for Dec 28 and 30.
The calendar also marks several Sundays and selected Saturdays as no-meeting days throughout both months, in line with usual legislative practice.
With the presentation of the supplementary expenditure statement early in the session and dedicated days for demands for grants and the appropriation bill, the financial business is expected to dominate the opening phase. The allocation of multiple Fridays and the final sitting day for private members’ business provides space for non-government legislative proposals.
The release of the calendar gives members, the government and the public a clear roadmap for the Assembly’s work through the rest of the year, balancing official financial business with private members’ initiatives and major festivals.
