Bhubaneswar:11/10/26:Odisha paid rich tributes today to two immortal heroes of Indian history—revolutionary leader Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary and 12-year-old freedom fighter Shaheed Baji Rout on his martyrdom anniversary.

At just 12 years old, Baji Rout became an unforgettable symbol of selflessness and sacrifice. By refusing to ferry British troops across the Brahmani River, he gave his life to protect freedom fighters, sparking a wave of courage across the nation. His martyrdom galvanised thousands of young Indians during the freedom movement, etching his name permanently in the annals of Odisha’s rich history.

The event also celebrated the lifelong struggle of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan against injustice and oppression. As a staunch proponent of socialist ideals, a veteran freedom fighter, and an architect of the iconic ‘Total Revolution’ (Sampoorna Kranti), JP Narayan inspired generations to stand up for democratic values, truth, and political ethics.

A joint commemorative program was organised near the Odisha Legislative Assembly by the Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department in association with the Shaheed Baji Rout Memorial Foundation.

Hon’ble Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Smt. Surama Padhy, graced the occasion as the chief guest and offered floral tributes at the statue of Shaheed Baji Rout.
