Bhubaneswar:23/8/26: Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling on Sunday announced the long-awaited restructuring of the pharmacy cadre, fulfilling a demand pending for 39 years.
Speaking at the general body meeting and one-day annual state conference of the Odisha Pharmacy Officers Service Association held at Rama Devi University, the Minister said the government has not only restructured the cadre but also prepared a comprehensive Job Chart to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists.
“Pharmacy cadre restructuring was a 39-year-old demand. Our government has honoured this demand and prepared a Job Chart for pharmacists. This is a historic step for the pharmacy community,” Dr. Mahaling declared.
The Minister further revealed that approval has already been granted for the creation of 1,108 new Pharmacy Officer posts. These vacancies will be filled at the earliest to strengthen medicine services across the state.
Highlighting the broader vision, Dr. Mahaling said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the Odisha government is committed to strengthening human resources in the health sector and ensuring clear duties and rights for every category of health worker.
He also informed that the Association’s demand to implement the Pharmacist Council of India – Appointment and Promotion Services Rules, 2025 (already in force in 20 states) is being examined seriously by the government.
Pharmacists play a crucial role in dispensing medicines, ensuring their safe use, and providing essential counselling to patients. Strengthening pharmacy services, the Minister emphasised, will significantly improve the overall quality of healthcare delivery in Odisha.
The restructuring and preparation of the Job Chart are expected to bring greater clarity in roles, enhance professional growth, and open new career progression opportunities for pharmacists.
The Odisha Pharmacy Officers Service Association expressed heartfelt gratitude to the state government and the Health Minister for these progressive measures.
