Odisha CM Meets Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal

Bhubaneswar:27/5/26:Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held high-level discussions with Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal on Wednesday to fast-track projects worth over Rs 1 lakh crore that promise to reshape the state’s economic landscape.

The landmark meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan focused on expediting the ambitious initiatives that will position Odisha as the world’s largest aluminium production hub. Land has already been allocated for key components, infrastructure is advancing rapidly, and a new coal block is set to become operational this year.

Mega Projects on the Horizon

Vedanta’s proposed investments include:

  • A massive 60 lakh tonne capacity Alumina Refinery in Rayagada district
  • A 30 lakh tonne Aluminium Smelter in Dhenkanal district
  • A 6000 MW Power Project in Dhenkanal
  • An Integrated Downstream Aluminium Park, along with coal and bauxite industries

The Downstream Aluminium Park, to be established near the smelter, will manufacture high-value products for aerospace, electric vehicles (EV), and defence sectors — sectors critical for India’s future growth.

During the discussions, CM Majhi emphasised the transformative potential of these projects. “This massive investment by Vedanta will create immense opportunities for our youth,” he said. To ensure timely delivery, the government will review project progress every 15 days. These initiatives are expected to generate lakhs of direct and indirect jobs while nurturing thousands of new MSMEs, significantly accelerating Odisha’s journey toward becoming a $500 billion economy by 2036.

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal expressed strong confidence in the partnership. “These projects will bring a complete transformation to Odisha’s economy. They will generate lakhs of jobs, empower local enterprises, and help build a future-ready industrial hub,” he remarked, while thanking the state government for its proactive support.

Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma and Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Saswat Mishra, were present during the discussions.

With rail connectivity approved near the upcoming bauxite mine and infrastructure development progressing smoothly, expectations are high that construction work on these flagship projects will commence in earnest soon.

The partnership between the Odisha government and Vedanta signals a new chapter of rapid industrialisation, particularly benefiting the central and southern regions of the state.
