No Power Cuts for Unpaid Bills:Relaxation for Households This Summer

Bhubaneswar:13/4/26:In a major people-friendly move amid rising temperatures, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has directed that no domestic household consumer will face power disconnection due to unpaid electricity bills throughout the intense summer of 2026, until the arrival of the monsoon.

The directive aims to provide much-needed relief to families battling the sweltering heat, when the demand for fans, coolers, and air conditioners peaks. Singh Deo made it clear that domestic consumers should not suffer power disruptions over pending bills during this critical period.

Speaking on the policy, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasised, “There shall be no disconnection of power supply for domestic household consumers due to non-payment of bills during the summer season. People must not face hardship in this scorching heat.”

He further instructed all Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) — TPNODL, TPWODL, TPCODL, and TPSODL — to strictly avoid any unscheduled power cuts linked to bill payments. Power interruptions will be permitted only for essential repair and maintenance work. All such scheduled outages must be widely publicised in advance through SMS alerts, public announcements, and other effective communication channels so that consumers can prepare accordingly.

To ensure smooth implementation, Singh Deo has urged all concerned departments, agencies, and DISCOM officials to sensitise their staff about the directive. A robust monitoring mechanism will be put in place to guarantee strict compliance on the ground.

The Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, has been tasked with overseeing the entire process and submitting a detailed action report for review by the Deputy Chief Minister.

This proactive step by the Odisha government is expected to bring significant comfort to millions of households across the state, especially in rural and urban areas where extreme summer temperatures often make reliable electricity a necessity rather than a luxury.

Consumers, however, have been gently reminded that the relief is temporary and they are encouraged to clear their pending dues at their earliest convenience once the monsoon arrives.

With this announcement, the state government once again demonstrates its commitment to public welfare and ensuring an uninterrupted power supply during the challenging summer months.
