Second meeting of the State-Level Coordination Committee for Census 2027 was held

Bhubaneswar:2/4/26:The second meeting of the State-Level Coordination Committee for Census 2027 was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anu Garg at the Conference Hall of Lok Seva Bhawan here.

At the outset, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, provided an overview of the progress made in Census 2027 and the Houselisting and Housing Census 2026. Thereafter, Director of Census Operations, Nikhil Pawan Kalyan, presented a detailed update on the status of the census preparations and activities.

Senior officials present at the meeting included Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Finance Department Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, and Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department N. Tirumala Naik, along with other committee members. Revenue Commissioners of all divisions, District Collectors, and Commissioners of Municipal Corporations joined the meeting virtually.

The meeting highlighted the Self-Enumeration (SE) facility introduced in Census 2027. Citizens can conveniently submit their household and individual details online through the official Self-Enumeration Portal (https://se.census.gov.in) from April 1 to April 15, 2026 (midnight). Trained enumerators will then conduct door-to-door visits from April 16 to May 15, 2026, to verify the self-submitted data, complete the household listing and housing census, and finalise entries.

Citizens who are unable to complete self-enumeration online can still provide their details when the enumerators visit their homes. Officials emphasised that widespread use of self-enumeration will significantly speed up the data collection process while maintaining accuracy.

As of April 1 (the first day of self-enumeration), approximately 17,000 persons in Odisha submitted their details through the portal. Several District Collectors also completed their self-enumeration and encouraged officers and staff under them to do the same. The Chief Secretary urged all government departments to take proactive steps to ensure officers and employees complete self-enumeration during the window.

Detailed discussions were held on completing the first phase — Houselisting and Housing Census — within the stipulated timeline. Topics included data accuracy, training of field staff, use of digital devices, and optimal deployment of human resources.

Chief Secretary Anu Garg directed all concerned departments and district administrations to extend full cooperation and actively support the census operations to ensure their smooth and successful completion.

The meeting was coordinated by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, the nodal department for census activities in the state.
