Odisha Govt to Host First-Ever ‘Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogita 2025’

Cuttack:9/11/25:The Odisha government is set to make history by hosting the first-ever ‘Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogita 2025’, a grand boat racing event designed to celebrate the state’s glorious maritime heritage.

The two-day competition will take place near the Gadagadia Ghata in Cuttack, alongside the ongoing Baliyatra festival — one of Odisha’s most vibrant cultural celebrations.

A New Chapter in Odisha’s Maritime Tradition

Scheduled to begin on November 11, the Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogita will feature men’s and women’s teams from 10 states, including Odisha. The event aims to revive the state’s age-old maritime spirit while promoting sports, tourism, and cultural unity through traditional and modern boat racing.

The highlight of the event will be the Fly Boat Race, expected to deliver a spectacular visual experience for thousands of spectators along the riverbanks of Mahanadi.

Inauguration and Closing Ceremony

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida will inaugurate the event at 11:45 a.m. on the opening day. The races will continue on November 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring multiple competitive and exhibition rounds.

The grand closing ceremony will be graced by Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, who will felicitate the winners at the Gana Kabi Baishnaba Pani Manch on the final day.

Celebrating Odisha’s Seafaring Legacy

Coinciding with the iconic Baliyatra, the Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogita pays tribute to the legendary ‘Sadhavas’ — ancient Odia traders and sailors who embarked on daring voyages across Southeast Asia centuries ago. Through this initiative, the Odisha government seeks to inspire younger generations to embrace and preserve the state’s maritime traditions while boosting river-based sports tourism.

The event is expected to draw large crowds, giving visitors a unique blend of adventure, culture, and nostalgia along the banks of the mighty Mahanadi
