Odisha Chief Minister reviewed the diarrhoea situation across six districts of the state

Bhubaneswar:21/06/25: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today reviewed the diarrhoea situation across six districts of the state and assessed the various measures being implemented to contain the outbreak at Lok Seva Bhawan.

The meeting highlighted that the diarrhoea situation is now under control, with a significant decline in new infections. Districts including Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar have reported a marked reduction in cases, and normalcy is gradually returning.

“The coordinated efforts of multiple government departments have been pivotal in bringing the situation under control and rapidly decreasing infection rates,” the Chief Minister said. He further instructed departmental secretaries and officers to maintain seamless coordination of medical services—from primary health centers to medical colleges—to ensure sustained control.

Preventive measures are to be intensified in areas at risk but not yet affected. The Chief Minister also urged preparedness in all vulnerable and affected zones ahead of Durga Puja festivities.

The meeting also noted ongoing efforts to purify drinking water in all educational institutions. The Chief Minister directed schools and colleges to strictly adhere to safety protocols and preventive measures to protect students’ health.

Emphasizing food safety, the Chief Minister called for strict inspections of street food vendors and sanitation of these areas. He also stressed the purification of tube wells and regular testing of drinking water in villages and other localities.

To date, 3,892 people have been infected across affected districts, with 3,543 recoveries and 254 patients currently undergoing treatment.

Statewide public awareness campaigns continue vigorously through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) initiatives. The Mission Shakti Department is engaging women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to promote diarrhoea prevention, while Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Anganwadi workers, and SHG members actively spread awareness in communities.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary of Health Department Aswathy S., along with Principal Secretaries from Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Housing and Urban Development, Women and Child Protection, and Public Education departments.
