Global Footprint Grows: Odisha Adds France and Belgium to Its Mango Export Destinations

Bhubaneswar, Odisha | 27 May 2025 — Marking a major milestone in Odisha’s agri-export journey for the year 2025–26, a total of 41.35 metric tonnes (MT) of fruits and vegetables have been exported to key international markets including Dubai, London, Birmingham, Rome, Venice, Dublin, and most notably, France and Belgium. These achievements have been made possible through the leadership of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), Government of Odisha, with Palladium India acting as the Technical Support Unit (TSU) for marketing under the PSFPO (Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations) Project, supported by the Gates Foundation.

Mango Exports Take Center Stage

Out of the total exports this year, 30.53 MT comprises of mangoes — particularly premium varieties like Amrapalli and Dussehri — further cementing Odisha’s reputation as a reliable and quality-driven exporter of horticultural produce.

This week alone marked a significant breakthrough, with 6.7 MT of mangoes exported. Golden Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited facilitated the first-ever shipment to France, and Saptasajya FPCL successfully sent mangoes to Belgium,
adding both countries to Odisha’s growing list of international export destinations.

Palladium’s Role in Market Access

Palladium, as the TSU for marketing has been instrumental in facilitating these exports by identifying high-potential markets, enabling compliance and logistics, and building the capacities of FPOs across the state. The initiative aligns with the broader mission of improving farmer incomes, strengthening value chains, and diversifying agri-exports from Odisha.

“We never imagined our mangoes would reach France, This opportunity has brought better income and pride to our community. We thank the DA&FE Department and Palladium for guiding us through this journey”, said Radhamadhab Rath, Farmer member, Golden Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited.

New Markets, Higher Incomes

The strategic export expansion has not only created market diversification but also resulted in a more than 60% increase in price realization for farmers — a direct boost to their livelihoods. With support from DA&FE, Palladium in collaboration with NABARD is opening new frontiers in agricultural trade.

Within one year, FPOs of Odisha have reached more than 7 global destinations. This benchmark has now been surpassed, with new destinations added and higher volumes exported. The current momentum reflects the ambitious targets set by the Government of Odisha in establishing the state as a major agri-export hub.

“As Palladium, serving as the Technical Support Unit under DA&FE for the PSFPO Project supported by the Gates Foundation, we are proud to witness firsthand the growing impact of our efforts in Odisha.

The recent successful mango exports to new destinations, such as France and Belgium, and the addition of new commodities, are major steps toward global market integration for farmers and FPOs in the state. Through our market systems development approach, we’re working closely with the Department to boost the market responsiveness of smallholder farmers and connect local supply chains to global demand. Our vision is clear: strengthen FPOs as business entities, expand export opportunities, and help increase the incomes and resilience of smallholder farmers across Odisha”, said Biswajit Behera, Project Team Lead, PSFPO, Associate Director, Palladium
