Revenue Divisional Commissioner of the southern division Begins Probe Into Mango Kernel Deaths

Bhubaneswar:6/11/24: A day after Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ordered a probe into the mango kernel death incident in Kandhamal district, Revenue Divisional Commissioner of the southern division, Roopa Roshan Sahoo initiated the process by holding interactions with community members and Panchayati raj institutions.

Official sources said that the RDC visited Mandipanka village of Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district to investigate the alleged deaths and medical complications of some residents due to consumption of mango kernel. She interacted with the family members, ward members, members of the community, and civil society organisations along with the Collector and other officials of Kandhamal district. The RDC also inspected the records of the Public Distribution System (PDS) at the large area multipurpose societies (LAMPS).

As per the order from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the enquiry report should be submitted after further perusal of the relevant information in seven days. Notably, the Chief Minister ordered a thorough probe by the RDC in the wake of a statewide uproar over the death of two women allegedly after consuming gruel made of mango kernel at Kandhamal village under Darigbadi block of Kandhamal. Six others fell seriously ill and two of them were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, as their condition turned highly critical.
