Led by the Director, team NIT Rourkela on a visit to Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh to spread knowledge on ‘New Technology

Rourkela:13/4/23:A team of faculties led by Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director, NIT Rourkela) visited Kendriya Vidyalaya Kutra, Kendriya Vidyalaya Jharsuguda and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Jharsuguda for a lecture session with high school students. The topic for these interactive sessions was ‘Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (The themes allotted to NIT Rourkela for organising Jan Bhagidari activities across three assigned districts; Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh

During these learning sessions, Prof. Anup Nandy and Prof. Ratnakar Dash gave lectures on computer-generated images, creating a virtual environment, using AI in users’ facial expressions and emotions, and computer vision techniques for identifying objects in photos or videos. They also taught students how machine learning simulates human learning patterns to learn, grow, update, and develop by continually assessing data. Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar) accompanied the team on their school visits and interacted with students. He spoke on how this new tech assists different science streams in new inventions.

Explaining G20 India, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao addressed the teachers, staff and students of these schools and said, “Multiskilling is the quality we all should learn. The future of Work is changing with these emerging technologies, and we all should prepare for it. G20 India is an opportunity for all of us to show the world how India is equipped with these technologies. It is with our pride that, NIT Rourkela has been chosen to contribute through this G20 Jan Bhagidari activities. I extend my best wishes and congratulations to the supporting institutes like Kendriya Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya for their efforts in achieving our common goal.

“NIT Rourkela team will visit KV Bargarh and Vikash Group of Institution, Bargarh, tomorrow. As Director Prof. Rao is currently on schools visit, today evening, Director-in-Charge Prof. Sidhartha S. Jena inaugurated other G20 Jan Bhagidari activities like Rangoli Competition and Face Painting. The event raised awareness about the culture and heritage of the nation. The paintings and rangoli designs were themed on G20 India, and the participants presented the essence of India and G20 with bright colours and imaginative paint strokes. The Nodal Officer for G20 events at NIT Rourkela, Prof. Snehashish Chakraverty thanked the students and the audience for their active participation in the programme.
