Odisha CM Reviews Water Resources Department operations and plans

Bhubaneswar, 31/10/25:Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the Water Resources Department at Rajiv Bhawan on October 31, 2025, to review its operations and plans. He began the visit by inspecting the State Hydrological Data Center, where he studied real-time data on water reservoirs and river systems across the state.

Majhi emphasized the importance of using technology to manage water resources efficiently. He interacted with engineers and staff across various subdivisions, advising them to work with greater commitment and precision. He expressed satisfaction with their efforts and encouraged them to align with the government’s long-term goals.

The Chief Minister announced a major target: irrigating 15 lakh hectares of farmland by 2030. He stressed the need to ensure water reaches the tail-end of canal systems and directed the department to become more efficient and smart in its operations. During the visit, Majhi held discussions with Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Chief Engineer Chandrasekhar Padhi, and other senior officials. He reviewed departmental schemes and urged the timely execution of all water-related projects.

Majhi reiterated that smart water governance is key to agricultural growth and disaster resilience. He called for strengthening the department’s infrastructure and data systems to meet future challenges. This review highlights the state’s commitment to sustainable water management and its vision for a prosperous farming sector.
