Indian Citizens Advised To Defer Travel To Nepal Until Situation Stabilises: MEA

Newdelhi:9/9/25:India on Tuesday advised its citizens to defer travel plans to Nepal until the situation in the neighbouring country stabilises, following the deaths of 19 people in widespread protests that also led to the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli.

“In view of the developing situation in Nepal, Indian citizens are advised to defer travel there until the situation has stabilised. Indian citizens presently in Nepal are advised to shelter in their current places of residence, avoid going out onto the streets, and exercise all due caution,” the MEA said.

“They are also advised to follow local safety advisories from Nepali authorities as well as the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. In case any assistance is required, please call the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, on the helpline numbers,” the MEA added.

Air India and IndiGo have announced the cancellation of their flights between Delhi and Kathmandu.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will share further updates. At Air India, the safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority,” said an Air India spokesperson.

In a post on X, IndiGo said, “Consequently, all flights to and from Kathmandu stand suspended as of now. If your travel is impacted, you may conveniently opt for an alternate flight or claim a refund by visiting our website.”

Earlier in the day, the government said that it has been closely monitoring developments in Nepal since Monday and is deeply saddened by the loss of so many young lives.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased. We also wish a speedy recovery for those who were injured. As a close friend and neighbour, we hope all concerned will exercise restraint and address issues through peaceful means and dialogue,” the MEA said in a statement.

“We have also taken note that authorities have imposed a curfew in Kathmandu and several other cities in Nepal. Indian nationals in Nepal are advised to exercise caution and adhere to the steps and guidelines issued by Nepali authorities.”
