INC-WMC Successfully Concludes International Conference on ‘Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices’

Hyderabad  :4/7/25: The Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress (INC-WMC) successfully concluded its International Conference on ‘Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices’ today in Hyderabad.

The conference brought together policymakers, industry leaders, environmental experts, academia, and stakeholders from India and abroad to deliberate on sustainable mine closure solutions and share global best practices.

The event was honoured by the presence of Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Coal & Mines and Patron, INC-WMC, who inspired participants with his vision for a greener, safer future for India’s mining sector. He also addressed the gathering, reiterating the Government’s strong commitment to responsible and safe mining practices.

Senior officials, including Shri V. L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Mines & Co-Chairperson, INC-WMC, and Shri P. M. Prasad, Chairman, Coal India Ltd. & Member Secretary, INC-WMC, provided valuable guidance and insight, laying a strong foundation for meaningful discussions. Ms. Rupinder Brar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal & Chairperson, Executive Committee, INC-WMC, set the tone of the conference with her thoughtful introduction of the theme and her active involvement throughout the sessions.

The event witnessed lively knowledge exchange, featuring national and international speakers who shared innovative ideas and best practices for sustainable and responsible mining and mine closure. The collective perspectives presented during the conference will help shape impactful strategies for India’s mining future.

Key highlights included the release of significant initiatives such as the Mission Green BookletVision Documents on Copper and Aluminium, the RECLAIM Framework, the Exploration Module of the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) and 24th Neyveli Book Fair. These mark important milestones in strengthening sustainability, safety, and innovation across the sector.

The conference drew enthusiastic participation from India’s leading mining and industrial organisations — including Coal India, NLC India, SCCL, MCL, NCL, SECL, Hindalco, NMDC, NTPC Mining, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Adani, GMDC, APMDC, Jindal Power, JSW Group, BCCL, CMPDI, NALCO, CCL, WCL, ECL, DVC, Hindustan Copper, and many others — reflecting the industry’s shared commitment to responsible growth.
