Odisha CM Leads International Yoga Day Celebration at Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar:21/06/25:Odisha celebrated the International Day of Yoga grandly with a state-level event at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Services, Government of Odisha.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who led the event as the Chief Guest, performed yoga alongside ministers, MPs, MLAs, senior government officials, and approximately 15,000 citizens. Addressing the gathering, he described Yoga as India’s priceless gift to humanity, emphasizing that it is far more than just physical exercise—it is a holistic blend of physical, mental, intellectual, and spiritual well-being.

Speaking at the occasion, CM Majhi stated, “Yoga should not be confined to a few asanas or physical exercise. It stands at a much higher level and is a rare convergence of body, mind, and spirit. Rooted in Indian culture and yogic traditions, Yoga is not limited to any particular religion and is today embraced by people across the world regardless of caste, creed, or nationality.”

The event also featured a live video address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Visakhapatnam, where he described Yoga as a ‘pause button’ for humanity during global instability.

The CM credited PM Modi for taking the initiative to globalize Yoga within just six months of assuming office in 2014, which led the United Nations to officially declare June 21 as International Yoga Day later that year. “Today, the entire world celebrates this day with great enthusiasm,” said CM Majhi

The 2025 theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” emphasizes the deep connection between individual well-being and planetary health. CM Majhi said Yoga not only nurtures body and mind but promotes a lifestyle rooted in harmony with nature and all living beings.

The Chief Minister announced that the Odisha government is actively promoting yoga in schools, colleges, hostels, and sports centres. Workshops and awareness programs are being conducted to integrate Yoga into school curricula and public health initiatives. “Our goal is to build a healthy, self-reliant, skilled, and empowered Odisha,” he said.

Yoga sessions were also held across all districts of the state, with thousands gathering in both urban and rural areas to participate, demonstrating a growing awareness of and commitment to healthy living.

The event concluded with a traditional Gotipua dance performance, organized by the Culture Department, adding a cultural vibrancy to the celebration.
