Review meeting of Upper Lanth and Lower Indra Irrigation Project held

Bhubaneswar:- 15/05/2025:A review meeting of Upper Lanth and Lower Indra Irrigation Project was held today at the Lok Seva Bhavan Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo. Development Commissioner-cum- Additional Chief Secretary Smt. Anu Garg was also present in this review meeting.

Upper Lanth and Lower Indra Project has the potential to change the agricultural landscape of Odisha. With the implementation of this project, 29,900 hectares of agricultural land in Balangir and Nuapada districts will get irrigation facilities. Not only agriculture but also allied agriculture will improve. As a result, the people of this area can become self-reliant by harvesting multiple crops in their land and can also earn a decent living from allied agriculture. Along with this, the major problem of distressed migration in these areas can be resolved, said Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

He has directed the departmental officers to expedite the project. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singh Deo has also expressed to bring into his knowledge the instances that delays the procedures such as land acquisition, compensation payment, central approval, forest and environmental clearances, resettlement of displaced families, etc.. to expedite the project.

Development Commissioner Mrs. Anu Garg discussed various aspects of the project in detail with the officers.

The meeting was attended by the Water Resources Department’s Engineer-in-Chief , Shri Chandrashekhar Padhy, technical team, senior officers, while the District Collectors of Nuapada and Balangir and Forest Officials joined the meeting virtually.
