Italian Summer Film Festival 2024 to come to an end with the screening of Antonio Albanese’s ‘Cento Domeniche’

New Delhi:29/6/24: ‘Fare Cinema: Italian Summer Film Festival 2024’ will end with the screening of ‘Cento Domeniche,’ directed by Antonio Albanese, on 2 July 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, New Delhi. The film tells the story of Antonio Riva, a shipyard worker leading a quiet life. Antonio’s dream of financing his daughter’s wedding proves challenging, as he learns the hard way that those who guard our treasures may not necessarily safeguard our dreams. A panel discussion will also be on the theme ‘Cinema as Social Awareness,’ featuring Murtaza Ali Khan, Biraj Patnaik, and Andrea Anastasio, Director of, Italian Embassy Cultural Centre.

This festival is part of the larger ‘Fare Cinema’ initiative, dedicated to promoting Italian cinema and its film industry. It is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, National Association of Film Industries, Italian Trade Agency, Luce Institute – Cinecittà, Italian Film Commissions, and the Italian Academy of Cinema – David di Donatello Awards.

This year the festival, held from June 18th to July 2nd, 2024, showcased a selection of ten short films curated by the National Short Film Centre of Turin, representing the most creative and noteworthy works produced in Italy during 2022-2023. Titles included ‘Impure,’ ‘Il Panda Minore,’ ‘Barolo is Dead,’ ‘Birdwatching,’ ‘Le Sirene,’ and ‘Zum See.’ In addition to the short films, the festival also featured two full-length feature films from the 2023 Rome Film Festival: ‘Palazzina LAF,’ directed by Michele Riondino, and ‘Cento Domeniche,’ which is the festival’s closing film.

The ‘Italian Summer Film Festival’ marks the beginning of an exciting season for Italian cinema at the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre. In the fall, the Centre will host a retrospective dedicated to the legendary Marcello Mastroianni, celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth and two very special events in November 2024 and February 2025.

“We are thrilled to bring the ‘Italian Summer Film Festival’ to India,” said Andrea Anastasio, Director of the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre. “Short films, in the same fashion as short novels, can tell stories in a very powerful way. We have here a kaleidoscopic offering that reveals the vital and vibrant scene of young filmmakers in Italy, addressing a wide variety of themes. From the coming of age to the existential questions, from the visionary storytelling to the realism of day-to-day life, the festival takes us through a multicolored journey where the particular and the universal engage us all in a process of self-discovery.”
