Former Chairperson of Odisha State Commission For Women Jyoti Panigrahi resigned from Biju Janata Dal

Bhubaneswar: Former Chairperson of Odisha State Commission For Women Jyoti Panigrahi resigned from primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal and all positions in the party ahead of the general elections.

She tendered her resignation to the BJD President Naveen Patnaik with a ‘heavy and saddened heart’ ending her association with the party for around 30 years.

Panigrahi was the Senior Vice-President of Biju Janata Mahila Dal and BJD Observer of Sundergarh district.

Being influenced by former Odisha CM late Biju Patnaik, Panigrahi joined politics in 1995 after leaving her career in academics. Since then, she was associated with him and later with the BJD.

Along with her, her husband Saroj Kumar Panigrahi, the former Chairperson of Odisha State Cashew Development Corporation, also resigned from the BJD.

He left the regional party ‘with a heavy heart’, ending his association of around 47 years with late Biju Patnaik and the BJD. He cited ‘sideline’ and ‘negligence’ in the party as the chief reasons to quit the party.
