Bhubaneswar:2/3/24: Adding a new chapter in the health education and healthcare sector in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday inaugurated teaching hospitals in five government medical colleges and laid foundation to transform four medical colleges of the State.
The teaching hospitals inaugurated are 650-bedded Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital in Balangir, 650-bedded Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College & Hospital in Baripada, 500-bed Government Medical College and Hospital in Sundargarh, 500-bed Dharani Dhar Medical College and Hospital in Keonjhar and 650-bedded Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore. In addition, foundation stones have been laid to provide world-class infrastructure to Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer, Medical College at Cuttack, MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur, Rourkela Government Hospital and Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Institute at Burla. These are important steps towards making ‘Sustha Odisha Sukhi Odisha ‘ by the Chief Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that today will be a milestone in Odisha’s healthcare sector. As many as 2,950 beds were added in 5 medical college hospitals in a single day. More than Rs 2,000 crore has been spent by the state government on this. People from Balangir to Baripada, Sundargarh to Keonjhar, and Balasore will benefit from this. People’s confidence in our healthcare system has increased. He said that we aim to provide good treatment and services to the people.
The Chief Minister also said that there were only three government medical colleges in Odisha. In the last six years, eight new medical colleges and two post-graduate institutes have come up. Three more medical colleges are also going to be established in the coming days. Every year doctors and paramedic staff are recruited. Earlier only 321 MBBS doctors and 254 specialists were available per year. Now 2525 MBBS Doctors and 972 specialists are available.
The Chief Minister further said that there has been a transformation in the healthcare sector under the 5T initiatives. Hospitals are being developed into ‘AMA Hospitals’ for the benefit of the people.
The CM further said that a foundation has been given for the transformation of AHPGIC Cuttack, MKCG MCH Berhampur, VIMSAR Burla, and RGH Rourkela into world-class hospitals. More than Rs 3,400 crore will be spent on this, the CM said.
