Narendrapur:25/2/24 Tata Steel Meramandali (TSM) celebrated the successful hosting of the 6th edition of the exposition on Elimination of Human-Machine Interface on February 20-22, 2024. The three-day event witnessed active participation from various locations including Meramandali, Sahibabad, Khopoli, and Hosur, culminating in a total of 1695 innovative ideas submitted for consideration across these locations. The exposition was a pivotal part of Tata Steel’s Safety Excellence Journey, which is dedicated to minimizing human-machine interaction within the workplace.
A display of best 200 Safety Kaizens spanning 5 distinct categories—Mechanization/Remote Working, Basic Condition Restoration and Equipment, Automation/Robotics & Digitalization, Barricading and Access Control/Machine Guarding, and Jigs & Fixture/Tools & Tackles were showcased during the event. The hierarchical structure of control among these Kaizens was thoroughly discussed, highlighting that 50% were engineered control solutions, 25% were administrative control measures, 15% focused on substituting hazards, and 10% aimed at eliminating hazards.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by esteemed guests including Rajiv Mangal, VP Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel, Subodh Pandey, VP Operations TSM, NMB & Graphene, Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Chief Safety, Tata Steel and Agam Kumar, Chief Safety, TSM in the presence of other departmental Chiefs, Heads, Line Managers, and Vendor Partners of various units.
During the exposition, heads of various departments motivated their colleagues to explore and discover various engineering solutions to improve workplace safety. Workers, supervisors, safety professionals, and line managers from all departments eagerly attended to learn about Tata Steel’s initiatives targeting the elimination of human-machine interference.
Selected Kaizen winners across different categories were felicitated by Amit Kumar Singh, Chief Iron Making, TSM and Agam Kumar, Chief Safety, TSM in the closing ceremony. Upendra Prasad Yadav, Head of Workplace Safety, TSM gave the vote of thanks.
