ORMAS Inks MoUs to Bring Opportunities for Nabarangpur Farmers to Market Maize

Bhubaneswar:5/11/23: ORMAS under Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department signed two MoUs with Vijayanagar Biotech of Andhra Pradesh and DeHaat of Patna, Bihar, during the Buyer-Seller Meet under Mukhyamantri Maka Mission held on Saturday at the MGNREGS Conference Hall, SIRD & PR Campus, Bhubaneswar.

ORMAS plays a vital role in facilitating the production, procurement and marketing of maize through forming and promoting 14 Women-led Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs), one consortium Farmer Producer Organization, out of which 12 FPOs have already been registered, seven Agrimalls and one Producer Enterprise in Nabarangpur district under the State Sector Scheme “Implementation Support to ORMAS”.

The MoU offers the farmers of Nabarangpur district, through the FPOs, the opportunity to market their maize to prominent organizations at a remunerative rate. Moreover, collection, storage, quality control and transportation of harvested maize will also be ensured.

Chief Executive Officer, Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar signed the MoU on behalf of ORMAS, in the presence of Sushil Kumar Lohani, Principal Secretary, Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department and Kamal Lochan Mishra, Collector, Nabarangpur. Representative from different renowned organizations such as; Vijayanagar Biotech, DeHaat, Suguna, T. Farms Pvt Ltd, JAPFA Comfeed India Pvt. Ltd., Venkateswar Hatcheries, Go Green Warehouses Pvt. Limited and Central Warehousing Corporation along with Dr. Shankar Lal Jat, Senior Scientist of ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research, along with CEOs and BoD members of 14 FPOs of Nabarangpur district promoted by ORMAS and officials of ORMAS were also present.

“The MoU offers the farmers of Nabarangpur district, through the FPOs, the opportunity to market their maize to prominent organizations at a remunerative rate. Furthermore, constant capacity building, handholding support, procurement services are being supervised by ORMAS”, said the Principal Secretary, PR & DW Dept, Govt of Odisha.
