World Tourism Awards 2023 given away at IITTM Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar:27/9/23:IITTM Bhubaneswar celebrated the World Tourism Awards 2023 on 27 September 2023 in an exclusive ceremony at the institute premises. The annual World Tourism Awards launched by IITTM Bhubaneswar provides an opportunity to showcase and promote, encourage and reward tourism excellence. It also recognizes outstanding contributions in different areas to community and society. Contributions emphasize the awardee’s concern for the common good, willingness to give time and comfort, and the ability to draw together varied resources to solve problems, rather than only technical competence. The Nodal Officer and Head, Dr. Md. Sabir Hussain extended the welcome address and gave an insightful address on “Tourism and Green Investment”, the theme for the World Tourism Day 2023. The Chief Guest, Ms. Iliana Citaristi, Padma Shri, Eminent Odissi&Chhau Dancer, lauded the efforts of the institute to recognize excellence and elaborated on the significance of a multifaceted approach to inclusiveness of tourism growth. She also shared her views on Culture as a way of life in Odisha.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. SangitaGosain, an Eminent Odissi Singer and expert in culture, emphasized the need for the inclusion of dance, music and other cultural inputs in training of tourism professionals and creation of sustainable livelihoods.

Associate Professor &Programme Coordinator Dr Adyasha Das elaborated upon several new initiatives taken up by IITTM as well as the week-long activities for the World Tourism Day celebrations culminating with the awards.
