Eminent film producer and journalist Alaya Mohanty passed away

Bhubaneswar: 3/1/23:Eminent film producer and journalist Alaya Mohanty passed away while undergoing treatment at a Bhubaneswar-based hospital on Tuesday. He was 65. He had shot to fame after producing art films like Sunya Swaroopa and Asha. Which film is directed by Santanu Mishra. His movie Sunya Swaroopa directed by Himanshu Khatua based on the Mahima cult was adjudged the Best Feature Film in Odia at the 44th National Film Festival in 1996. The film also bagged awards in five categories in Odisha State Film Awards including best film and best direction. In both, the film Aparijita Mohanty essayed the lead role. He also produced the commercial film BHUL BUJIBANI MOTE. Tele soaps Balighara and Marichika later added feathers to his cap.

After his death news spread, and many artists and politicians paid a last visit to offer tribute to the departed soul. His daughter Trupti Mohanty said, “My father was my best friend. He was a fighter. He used to help needy people facing problems with treatment in hospitals. He was a creative person. His movie Sunya Swaroop broke many records.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep condolences on the demise of filmmaker and journalist Alaya Mohanty.In a message, the Chief Minister said that Mohanty created an identity for himself as a senior journalist throughout the State.“Besides, Mohanty also contributed in the fields of social work and film-making. He was always active to help the poor and sick,” the CM said. A void has been created in the fields of journalism and social work with the passing away of Mohanty, Naveen noted.

”Mayor Sulochana Das said, “It’s an irreparable loss for journalism and Odia film industry. He had earned kudos for making offbeat movies. Above all, he was a good human being. Today he became silent. He will be missed forever.
