Smt. Babita Patra appointed as the new Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights

Bhubaneswar:5/8/25: In a significant move, the Government of Odisha has appointed Smt. Babita Patra as the new Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR). The appointment was made through a notification issued by the Department of Women & Child Development.

The notification, bearing No. WCD-BCC-MISC-0011-2025/19834WCD, dated 05-08-2025, states that the appointment is made in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 17 (1), 17 (2)(a), and Section 18 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005.

Smt. Patra, a resident of At-Mayur Vihar, Somnath Nagar, 4th Lane, Berhampur, will serve as the Chairperson for a period of three years from the date of assuming office or until she attains the age of sixty-five, whichever is earlier.

The appointment is expected to strengthen the state’s efforts in safeguarding the rights and welfare of children. The OSCPCR plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper implementation of laws and policies related to child protection, and Smt. Patra’s leadership is anticipated to bring renewed focus to this important area.
