CM Majhi Leads Tributes to Pandit Nilakantha Das at Assembly

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: Odisha on Tuesday commemorated the 141st birth anniversary of Pandit Nilakantha Das, one of the state’s most revered intellectuals, freedom fighters, and literary pioneers.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the tribute by offering floral respects at the statue of Pandit Das located in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly Library.

Pandit Nilakantha Das, a central figure in the Satyabadi Bana Vidyalaya movement, was a polymath — poet, philosopher, critic, politician, and a staunch nationalist. His contributions to Odia literature, education, and the freedom movement have earned him a permanent place in the cultural and political history of Odisha. He served as the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 1957 to 1961 and played a pivotal role in shaping the state’s identity.

To mark the occasion, the Odisha Legislative Assembly released a new publication titled “Speeches of Finance Ministers of Odisha from 2022 to 2025-26”.

The book, unveiled by the Chief Minister, is expected to be a valuable resource for researchers, students, intellectuals, and the general public, offering insights into the state’s fiscal policies and governance.
