Odisha Set to Host World Athletics Continental Tour

Bhubaneswar:11/7/25:Odisha is gearing up to make history by hosting the World Athletics Continental Tour (Bronze Level) for the first time at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on August 10, 2025.

The prestigious international athletics event will feature over 150 athletes from more than 10 countries, including India, Turkmenistan, Bhutan, the Philippines, South Korea, Malaysia, Iraq, Vietnam, the Republic of Cameroon, Sri Lanka, Iran, and the Maldives, competing across 20 thrilling events.

 At a press conference today, Odisha’s Sports Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj, expressed immense pride in the state’s role as host. “This is a proud moment for Odisha,” he said. “Hosting the World Athletics Continental Tour for the first time in our state reflects our commitment to sporting excellence. We are ensuring world-class infrastructure and hospitality to make this event a grand success.” He highlighted Odisha’s growing reputation as a global sports hub, citing its successful track record in hosting international events and the achievements of its athletes on the world stage.

Sandeep Mehta, Secretary General of the Athletics Federation of India, echoed this enthusiasm, stating, “We are proud to bring the World Athletics Continental Tour (Bronze Level) to India. With world-class athletes competing, this promises to be a spectacular event, and Odisha provides the perfect setting for its success.”

The press conference was also attended by Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department, Deepankar Mahapatra, Director, Sports and Youth Services Department, and B.E. Stanley Jones, Treasurer, Athletics Federation of India.

The event is expected to draw significant attention, showcasing Odisha’s capability to host high-profile international competitions while providing a platform for Indian athletes to shine alongside global talent. Preparations are in full swing to ensure a seamless experience for participants and spectators alike, with Kalinga Stadium’s state-of-the-art facilities set to elevate the tournament’s global appeal
