Chariot Construction Begins With ‘Ratha Katha Anukula’

Puri:30/4/25: On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the ‘Ratha Katha Anukula’ ritual was performed, signaling the start of construction of the chariots of Lord Jagannath and his siblings for Rath Yatra 2025. The Shrimandir administration has completed all preparations for the Chandana Yatra, a 42-day celebration that will begin soon.

The Narendra Pushkarini has been decorated for the occasion. The rituals for Chandana Yatra have been finalized, including the Mailam, Yatrangi Mahasnan, Chandanavedha Khaikora Bhog, Sarbang Besha Sari Sukhah Bhog, and incense rituals.

On the sacred occasion, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration launched if official Youtube channel.

Puri SP Vinit Agarwal said that necessary steps have been taken for security arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of Rath Yatra and Chandana Yatra. The chariots are being constructed using different types of wooden logs, with around 200 personnel, including carpenters, Bhoi servitors, blacksmiths, woodcutters, tailors, and artists, engaged in the process.

The construction of the chariots includes Lord Jagannath’s 45.6 ft-high Nandighosh chariot, Lord Balabhadra’s 45 ft-high Taladhwaja chariot, and Devi Subhadra’s 44.6 ft-high Darpadalana chariot. The Chandana Yatra will be observed for 42 days, divided into two parts: Bahara (outer) Chandan and Bhitara (inner) Chandan, each lasting 21 days.
