Abanikanta Das to receive the “Sikandar Alam Vadya Ratna Samman 2022”

Bhubaneswar:23/7/22:Shri Abanikanta Das, popularly known as Genu has been selected to receive the prestigious ” Sikandar Alam Vadya Ratna Samman 2022″ on the occasion of the Sikandar Alam Jayanti celebrations, 25th July at Rabindra Mandap as informed by the Sikandar Alam Foundation. An eminent rhythm player, he has also conceptualized and coordinated several music albums and musical events.

Abani Kanta Das ( Genu) was born into a family of music lovers in 1956. His inclination towards music was noticed since his childhood. With his determination, dedication and hard work, he went on to get many opportunities to perform with A-class artists both at the state and national level and he is also a recognised artiste of AIR, Doordarshan and several media channels. Awarded by several organizations, he has performed in prestigious music programmes in various parts of India apart from Odisha. With his impeccable memory and expertise in retro songs, he has contributed to the revival and preservation of priceless old Odia and Hindi melodies. The founder of “Alaap”, his music band, Abani Kanta has a dream of keeping his love for music alive.

He has also been the recipient of the Sur Tarang’s Vadya Ratna Samman, Cine Critic’s Sanskruti O Sanskruti’s Akshaya Sangeet Samman,  Raaga Foundation’s Award for Excellence in Music, Elite award and many others
