Odisha-born IPS officer Basant Kumar Rath has tendered his resignation to enter in politics

Jammu and Kashmir: 26/6/22:Odisha-born IPS officer Basant Kumar Rath has tendered his resignation to the Jammu and Kashmir Government citing ‘his enthusiasm in politics’.

Taking to his social media handles, Facebook and Twitter, the senior IPS officer termed politics a ‘noble profession’.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the 2000-batch senior IPS officer mentioned, “I wish to resign from the Indian Police Service to be able to participate in electoral politics.”

“Please consider this letter as my request for resignation/voluntary retirement and process it accordingly”, read the letter.

In July 2000, Rath was suspended with immediate effect by the central government in connection with repeated instances of gross misconduct and misbehavior.
