Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Trilochan Pradhan is no more

Bhubaneswar:4/12/21: Former Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University, eminent physicist, and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Trilochan Pradhan is no more, said sources on Saturday. He was 93.

Born on January 3, 1929, Pradhan is known as an Indian scientist who obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1956.

He headed the Theoretical Nuclear Physics Division at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics from 1964-74, was the first director of the Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar from 1974-89. and served as the vice-chancellor of Utkal University from 1989-91.

Pradhan had authored the books, The Photon, (Nova Science Publishers, New York), 2001; Quantum Mechanics (University Press of Hyderabad); and Electron Capture by Protons Passing through Hydrogen.

The prominent awards received by him are, Kalinga Ratna in 2018; Kalinga Samman in 2014; Padma Bhusan in 1990; and Meghnad Saha Award in 1980.
