International Webinar was organised by the Department of Geology, Fakir Mohan University

Balasore:5/10/21:On the eve of International Teachers Day on 5th October 2021, an International Webinar was organised by the Department of Geology, Fakir Mohan University on the topic “Groundwater and its sustainable management”. Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor of Fakir Mohan University inaugurated the webinar. Prof. Munesh Chandra Adhikary, Chairman, P.G. Council, Fakir Mohan University, and Prof. Madhumita Das, Ex-Vice Chancellor of Fakir Mohan University joined the webinar as Guest of Honour. At the beginning, Dr Nandita Mahanta, Head of the Department of Geology enlightened the participants about the theme of the webinar and introduced the participants to the guests. Mr. Arun Kumar Naik, the Joint Secretary of the webinar proposed the formal vote of thanks in the Inaugural Function.

The first-ever newsletter of the Geology Department “The Amethyst” has been released by the Vice-Chancellor in the webinar. It will be a quarterly newsletter of the department.

Prof. J. Francis Lawrence, Professor of Hydrology, Adama Science and Technology University, Ethiopia, addressed the participants on the topic “Application of Isotopes in Groundwater Management”.

Prof. V. Sudarshan, UGC BSR Faculty Fellow, Department of Applied Geochemistry, Osmania University, Hyderabad enlightened the participants about the “Environmental significance of trace elements in Groundwater.”

Prof. H.K. Sahoo, Professor of Geology (Retd.), Utkal University, Bhubaneswar has given his talk on  “Groundwater Quality degradation with special reference to Odisha”.

Dr. Asim Amitabh Pradhan, Organising Secretary of the webinar moderated the programme. Miss. Prangya Paramita Pahi, 2nd Semester student proposed the formal vote of thanks in the technical session.

Sayan Kumar Manna, Biswanath Sahoo and Mr. Raumya Ranjan Swain extended all technical support to the webinar.
