Tata Steel BSL bags CII Information and Communication Technology Award 2021

  • Adjudged second position for excellence in IT implementation for business continuity during COVID 19

         The recognition is in the category of manufacturing sector in the state

 Narendrapur, August 23, 2021: Tata Steel BSL has been honoured with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Award, 2021in the manufacturing sector in the state by the leading industry body of the country Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Odisha State Office. It was adjudged as the second-best by an extinguished jury for excellence in IT implementation for business continuity during COVID 19.

The steel major showcased its IT interventions like innovative automated facial recognition-based access control system to the plant for employees, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, which also track body temperature, mask use among them while marking attendance. The database is linked to HR, security and contractor management system facilitating the introduction of various logics while managing entry and exit of the employees to plant in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

.Similarly, extensive use of databases in different areas of operation like COVID-19 testing and vaccination status of the employees, safety audit, compliance of nose mask, social distancing through surveillance by drone-based camera tracking, etc. made a huge impact on the operation. The organisation also has developed various IT initiatives in human resource, finance, and accounts, logistics divisions to ensure smooth operation while addressing the challenges of COVID-19pandemic.

The competition was organised by CII in collaboration with the Department of Electronics and IT, Government of Odisha, state offices of Software Technology Parks of India and The National Informatics Centre, Government of India.
