Odisha Cabinet meeting, held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister approved 15 major proposals

Bhubaneswar:17/7/21: The Odisha Cabinet today decided to enact a new law for upgrading the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), Bhubaneswar into a non-affiliating Unitary University.

During the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, a proposal for enactment of the Odisha University of Technology and Research Bill, 2021 was approved. Once the Bill gets approval from the State Assembly, the CET will be renamed as the Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), Bhubaneswar.

After upgradation of CET into OUTR, the University will be able to provide facilities and opportunities for graduate and post-graduate education, Ph.D. and research in the field of engineering, science, and technology including Information Technology and its application, architecture, and management through instruction, training, research, development and extension.

The University will also provide opportunities for improving employability through entrepreneurial training, specialized skilled training, and soft skill requirement by industries.

The Cabinet further decided to allot Narangarh khondalite block to OMC Limited for mining on lease for the development of Puri as a World Heritage City under the Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture (ABADHA) scheme.

It was also decided in the Cabinet meeting to allow waive out of royalty in respect of Khondalite minerals extracted from the reserved mines to ensure easy implementation of projects under ABADHA scheme.

In December 2019, the State government had reserved Chandia, Sukhuaparha, and Teligarh mineral blocks in Jajpur, Gobindapur block in Cuttack, Kurumpada block in Khordha, Kundakundi Kunda Stone Quarry, and Narangarh in Khordha in favour of OMC Ltd.

The Cabinet approved a proposal to frame the Odisha Panchayat Executive Officers (method of recruitment and conditions of services) Rules, 2021 to make VLW/PEO recruitment procedure transparent.

As per the new rule provision, the PEO vacancies will be filled by direct recruitment through the Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission. There will be age relaxation up to 45 years for Gram Rojogar Sevaks (GRS) to appear in the recruitment examination.

Besides, the Cabinet decided to improve the Duduka-Gopalpur-Toparia road to two-lane with the paved shoulder in Sundargarh district. It also approves the lowest tender of RKD Constructions Private Ltd amounting to Rs 102.65 crore for the execution of the project.

A decision was also taken to formulate the Odisha Jail Pharmacist Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Pharmacist) Rules, 2021.

A total of 15 proposals received the Cabinet’s approval during today’s meeting.
