Foundation stone of the Odisha State Open University was laid at Badasinghari Mouza of Sambalpur

Sambalpur:21/11/20: The foundation stone of the Odisha State Open University was laid today at Badasinghari Mouza of Sambalpur district by. Srikant Mohapatra, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Odisha State Open University established by the State Government on June 10, 2015, started operating from a small temporary building inside the GM University campus with the first batch comprising 250 students. Over a period of fewer than five years, it has a student strength of over 30000. In 2018 the World Bank under the project Odisha Higher Education Project for Excellence and Equity (OHEPEE) sanctioned Rs 15 Crores for the permanent campus of OSOU.

40 acres of land has been allotted to the University in BadasinghariMouza adjacent to the GM University second campus and IIM campus near Goshala, Sambalpur. Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department, Government of Odisha has entrusted the responsibility for construction of the boundary wall of OSOU to Odisha State Police Housing Welfare Corporation (OPHWC).

Dr SrikantMohapatra, on the occasion, said that in addition to the basic UGC requirements like academic, administrative, warehouse, library buildings the Master Plan will have provisions for Skill Development Centre, Computer Centre, Student Support Service Centre, Campus Development And Maintenance Centre, Guesthouse for the visiting faculty, Convention Centre for organizing Convocation, Foundation day and other functions of the University, Recreation Centre, Health Care Centre, Model Laboratories for science and allied subjects and provisions for accommodation for the statutory authorities, teachers as well as non-teaching staff.

Further, he said that these construction works will be carried out in three phases as per the provisions in Master Plan. It is proposed to have a green campus with provision for solar energy generation, rainwater harvesting, fire management system, waste management system, proper drainage and electrification along with plantation at the vacant space.
