Bhubaneswar26/8/20:: After weeks of speculations, the Odisha government on Wednesday finally reduced the syllabus of Class 1 to 12 students for the 2020-21 academic session by 30 percent.

The development comes after the Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus for classes 9 to 12 was reduced by 30% this year due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The decision to rationalise the syllabus has been taken on the recommendation of three syllabus committees of SCERT, Board of Secondary Education and CHSE. The State-specific important subjects which students need to know have not been omitted from the syllabus,” informed State School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash.

The Minister said that the decision has been taken keeping in view the current Covid-19 situation. If the schools open, any further decision on the syllabus will be taken later.

Dash informed that the new syllabus will be available in BSE (http://www.bseodisha.nic.in), CHSE (http://chseodisha.nic.in) and SCERT (http://scertodisha.nic.in) websites from today.

The district education officers (DEOs) will intimate the headmasters of schools in this regard to teach the students accordingly to the reduced syllabus. Meanwhile, after the announcement of syllabus rationalization, students and educationists have expressed mixed feelings of approval and disappointment over the delayed decision.A student of Rourkela said, “Reduction of the syllabus is a welcoming step but the delayed decision may hamper our course of studies this year. Had the rationalization been effected a month or two earlier, it would have benefitted us more.”
