Flood Alert Sounded For Jajpur, Bhadrak & Kendrapara

Bhubaneswar:26/8/20: Baitarani River may trigger flood in low-lying areas of Jajpur and Bhadrak districts by tomorrow morning, special relief commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena said on Tuesday.

“Even though there is no flood situation as of now, heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas of Baitarani in Keonjhar may lead to a deluge. The river is flowing above the danger mark near Anandapur. Though the water level is below danger mark near Akhuapada, it may cross the mark by today evening,” Jena said.“By tomorrow morning, Baitarani River may trigger flood in low-lying areas of Jajpur and Bhadrak district,” he added.

 The SRC said Jalaka River is also flowing at 6.49 meters against the danger mark of 5.5 meters and continues to show a rising trend. He said Collectors of Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Kendrapada have been asked to be extremely vigilant.“One National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team and one Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team have been sent to Bhadrak district while the same will be dispatched to Jajpur soon,” SRC added.Speaking to media in this connection, Chief Engineer of State Water Resources department, Jyotirmaya Ratha, however, said there is less likelihood of a major flood due to the increasing rainfall activity.Ratha informed that river embankments are strategically weak points have been repaired and will be able to contain flood danger
