Construction work for chariots for Rath Yatra in Puri mark the festivities of Akshay Tritiya

Puri:26/4/20: The beginning of construction work for chariots for Rath Yatra in Puri mark the festivities of Akshay Tritiya today.

The entire process of chariot making takes exactly 60 days to be completed from here on. The chief carpenters of the three chariots — Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosha, Balabhadra’s Taladhwaja and Subhadra’s Darpadalana — are required to complete the work over a period of two months.

Preparations began on Saturday to conduct Akshaya Tritiya rituals inside the Jagannath Temple. The rituals were performed at the Chahani Mandap in the shrine this year in view of the corona-induced lockdown. This decision was taken after a discussion among servitors and other concerned stakeholders in the morning. It was also decided to hold the deities’ Chandan Yatra rituals inside the temple. Besides, measurement of wood logs for Sunday’s Rath Anukul ceremony began on Saturday.
