Bhubaneswar: 4/4/20: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered to taken strict action against those found to be indulged in creating panic and rift among people by sharing sensitive and unverified news about COVID-19 on social media platforms, DGP Abhay said this at a press conference here today.
The DGP said it is found that some unverified news related to coronavirus is being shared on social media platforms like Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook. And, some persons are found maliciously doing this to create disharmony among various groups in the society.“The CM has asked me to ensure strict action against such anti-social elements as per the law. If you come across such forwarded messages on any social platform, call the Helplines of Police and Health Departments to inform the same. Do not forward such messages,” the DGP said.
Besides, he said the shutdown in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Bhadrak has been completely successful in the last 20 hours, and thanked police personnel engaged in the enforcement task. More than 2700 cases registered, 2400 persons arrested and over 4,000 vehicles seized during the lockdown so far, the DGP added.
This apart, Odisha Government’s COVID-19 Spokesman Subroto Bagchi also warned social media users to be extra careful while posting or sharing anything related to coronavirus.
“If anyone found misusing social media, especially in case of matter related to, it won’t take us too much time to trace their digital footprints and take action accordingly,” Bagchi said.
He further said that the CM has requested the Nizamuddin Markaj attendees to come forward and report the Government by dialing 104 and get the test done in 24 hours. The participants didn’t go to the event to get infected or pass the COVID-19 infection, Bagchi added.
