Tokyo:14/3/20:Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe today pledged that Tokyo Olympics will be held in July as planned. He said, he had no immediate intention to declare a state of emergency over the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Japanese Parliament had approved a legislation yesterday that gives him the power to declare a State of Emergency to combat COVID-19. His comments on sticking to Tokyo Olympics schedule came two days after US President Donald Trump suggested that Tokyo Olympics be postponed for a year as the spread of the virus wreaks havoc on the sporting calendar.
Prime Minister Abe told a news conference that Japan wants to hold the Olympics as planned without any trouble by overcoming the spread of infections. Japanese Government officials and the International Olympic Committee insist that preparations are on track and there will be no postponement or cancellation.
More than 700 people across Japan are infected by Coronavirus with 21 deaths reported so far.
