Bollywood’s romantic comedy ‘Motichoor Chaknachoor ‘directed by Odisha-born Debamitra Biswal was released

Bhubaneswar: 15/11/19:Bollywood’s romantic comedy Motichoor Chaknachoor directed by Odisha-born Debamitra Biswal was released across screens on Friday.

Biswal, who is also a co-writer in the movie, hails from Bhubaneswar and is now residing in the city of dreams, Mumbai.

The journey of directing the movie till its release was not an easy task for Biswal as Bombay High Court had earlier ordered a stay on the release of its trailer, over non-payment of dues by the makers of the film Woodpecker Movies Private Limited.

Biswal had filed a commercial arbitration petition challenging the order following which the stay was lifted and the official trailer of the film was unveiled by Viacom18 Studios on 11 October.

Soon after this, Biswal was accused of indulging in fraud by trying to sell the rights of the film to a distributor in Bihar. She has allegedly received Rs 32 lakh from the distributor.

Legal proceeding against Biswal is being processed by Woodpecker Movies and Viacom18 Studios. Legal counsel of Woodpecker Movies Ramesh Jain said: “The matter is of clear fraud and collusion and we are now investigating and approaching the honourable court for relief of same.”

Amid all these, the movie with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Athiya Shetty in the lead role was released today and received a mixed review from audience.

Nawazuddin has often revelled in deadpan humour. The actor invokes that quality here for most parts while bringing alive Pushpinder Tyagi, a middle-aged bachelor who works as an accountant in Dubai and who arrives in hometown Bhopal as the film starts, in search of a bride. Pushpinder’s mother (Vibha Chibber) hopes to make big moolah by way of dowry in the process.
