Odisha Chief Minister launched MuSafaiwala campaign

Bhubaneswar:2/10/19: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation-Mahatma Gandhi launched the ‘Mu Safaiwala’ campaign.

Launching the campaign from the front of the ‘Missionary of Charity’ building at Satyanagar here participated in the ‘shramadan’.

Since sanitation is the primary focus of any urban body and it needs to be participatory to ensure a behaviour change model for an effective management of waste. With this objective the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has devised ‘Mu Safaiwala’, a behavior change model of promoting child ambassador to percolate message of participatory waste management approach.

Under ‘Mu Safaiwala’ campaign all school children will solemnly pledge for 10 important points of sanitation behavior which in turn would motivate them to be a change agent for bringing desired sanitation behavior ensuring waste management for a clean and eco-friendly Bhubaneswar.As part of the people connect MuSafaiwala programme, all students will be taking pledge to be safaiwala and refrain from use of SingleUsePlastic. The initiative will continue in all schools for next three months during prayers.


Both government and private schools under the BMC area will be covered in the campaign.

As per the strategy this will be a three phased campaign. The time line set for the purpose is October 2, 2019, November 14, 2019 and 1st week of January 2020.

The initiative will not only encourage people to take pledge to keep their surroundings clean but it also aims to inculcate cleanliness in their daily habits & behaviour. It will involve students & residents’ welfare associations as change agents.
