Eminent engineer, Shri Akshaya Chandra Ray passed away on twentieth September at the Apollo hospital, Bhubaneswar.He was seventy-seven years old and had been ailing for some time.
Shri Ray had been a meritorious student all through his career. After successfully completing his intermediate in Science at Ravenshaw College, he completed his B.Sc Engineering from Burla Engineering College. He worked in State Government service for thirty five years under Govt. of Odisha in Department of Water Resources and retired as Chief Engineer. He had extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of major, medium and minor irrigation water management Projects. He had visited Italy, Korea, USA, Canada and other countries in connection with international seminars on participatory irrigation management organized by World Bank and other reputed organizations.
After his retirement, he managed the publication house, Adya Prakashani and established it as a reputed publication house in Odisha. He was also the President of the cultural organization Raaga and undertook several successful initiatives for the preservation and promotion of odia culture.As a dynamic member of the Rotary Club of Confluence, he was actively involved in many charitable causes.He received the Paul Harris Fellow recognition from Rotary International. A staunch supporter of charitable causes , he sponsored the education on many poor students. He nourished people around him with his simplicity, affection and caring nature.
He was married to eminent writer Dr.Pratibha Ray. Ministers, engineers, writers, publishers and his friends all mourned for him.
