Amaravati:24/7/19: Veteran BJP leader and former minister from Odisha, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan was on Wednesday sworn in as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
Acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh, Justice C Pravin Kumar administered the oath to the new Governor at the Raj Bhawan in Vijayawada.
Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and other MLAs were in attendance during the swearing-in ceremony.
A day before the swearing-in ceremony, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan visited Tirumala Tirupati temple and had darshan of the Lord.
Immediately after swearing-in, the members joined the first citizen for high tea where the guests were introduced to the new governor. Later, the Cabinet posed for the mandatory group photo.
Biswabhusan Harichandan is the first governor of the state to assume office in the capital city after the bifurcation.
Biswa Bhushan Harichandan was Born on August 3, 1934, Harichandan did his post-graduation in Economics and also studied law. He joined Bharatiya Jana Sangha in 1971 and become its National Executive Member and its State General Secretary till the formation of Janata Party in 1977. During the Emergency period, he was detained under the MISA Act. When BJP formed in 1980, he was made its Odisha State president and he served in the capacity till 1988 before joining Janata Dal. But he was back in BJP in 1996. A five-time MLA, he represented both Chilka and Bhubaneswar Central Assembly Constituencies. He was part of several agitations in Odisha
