Karnataka:18/7/19:The Karnataka Assembly today witnessed pandemonium on several times, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till tomorrow.

Opposition BJP has decided to sit on dharna for the whole night in Vidhana Saudha protesting against not taking up the trust vote today itself.

Earlier in the morning as soon as the House assembled, Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy moved the one-line confidence motion and initiated the discussion. He said the rebel MLAs created doubts about the survival of the coalition government and it is his responsibility to tell the truth to the public.

As soon as the motion was  moved, Opposition BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa stood up and said the trust vote process should be completed in a single day and quoted several instances in its support. Meanwhile, Congress  Legislature Party Leader Siddaramaiah raised a point of order requesting the Speaker to defer the trust vote as the Supreme Court’s interim order on the petition filed by rebel legislators lacked clarity.

As the discussion was prolonged, the opposition BJP demanded to conduct the floor test today itself. When the House witnessed uproarious scenes several times, Speaker and Deputy Speaker adjourned the House several times.

A BJP delegation headed by Jagadish Shettar submitted a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala requesting him to direct the Speaker to go ahead with the trust vote and not to allow discussion on other issues.

Later, Governor Vajubhai Vala sent a message to Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar to consider the trust vote by the end of the day. The message was read out by the Speaker in the House. Senior Congress Leaders H.K. Patil, R.V. Deshpande, Krishna Byre Gowda opposed the Governor’s intervention.

AIR correspondent reports that during the discussion on the Confidence Motion Karnataka Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar accused the opposition of abducting Kagwad  Congress MLA Shrimant Patil.

But BJP refuted it and said it is a baseless allegation.  Mr. Sivakurmar said that Shrimant Patil has been forcefully taken in a flight and shifted to a hospital in Mumbai,  he has enough proofs to substantiate it, he claimed. Mr. Sivakumar appealed the Speaker to bring back Mr. Patil.

Speaker Ramesh Kumar said that he cannot order an enquiry on this issue and he directed the Home Department to contact Patil’s family and give a report by tomorrow about his whereabouts.   Mr. Patil’s issue creates uproar in the house several times.

The Congress leaders termed the incident as a brutal murder of democracy and a question of protection of MLAs. Meanwhile, BJP started the Dharna at Vidhana Saudha protesting against not taking up the trust vote today itself.
