‘Osua Lagi’ of the Holy Trinity of Puri Srimandir was held

Puri:23/6/19: With the annual Rath Yatra inching closer, ‘Osua Lagi’ of the Holy Trinity of Puri Srimandir will be held today at Sri Jagannath temple as a part of the ongoing ‘Anabasara Seba’.

Ritualistic ‘Osua Lagi’ is done from the day of sasthi till navami. ‘Osua’ is a paste made from jhuna (resin), sesame oil, water and some other natural products. This paste hardens after its application on the body of deities. The old layer of this paste is removed during ‘anasara’, which is named ‘karala’.

Presently, Lord Jagannath and his sibling deities, out of bounds for devotees are undergoing a fortnight of recuperation period after taking a luxurious bath on Debasnana Purnima.

During the period, Vaidya (temple physician) treats them with herbal medicines and the deities are kept on a fruit diet. The Trinity, after convalescing from fever, would give ‘darshan’ to devotees a day prior to the festival of chariots.
