Odia actor-comedian Salil Mitra passed away

Bhubaneswar:4/6/19: Odia actor-comedian Salil Mitra, who was critical after a road mishap in Keonjhar district, The 52-years-old actor passed away at about 12.30 am on Monday  at KIMS hospital here.

According to reports, the actor was admitted at a private hospital here after his health condition deteriorated. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Notably, on May 12, Salil fractured his leg, hands and sustained injuries on his chest in a road mishap that took place near College Square in Ghatagaon town while travelling in his car.

He was immediately rushed to a local hospital in Ghatagaon and then shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Later, he was admitted to KIMS hospital in Bhubaneswar after his health condition worsened.

Salil Mitra was a popular comedian-cum-actor in the Odia film industry and made his acting debut on the silver screen with Pua Bhangi Dela Suna Sansara in 1999. His stint in Sister Sridevi (2017) was highly appreciated by the audience.


Deepak Mitra, his cousin brother said, “Salil suffered a broken rib during the car accident which is stated to have severely injured his heart. His spinal cord was also injured during the mishap due to which he was almost under paralytic arrest. Despite sincere attempts by the doctor, his health condition did not improve and he succumbed to his injuries at around 11.30 pm yesterday.”

His family sources said that Salil’s last rites will be conducted at his ancestral village in Karanjia of Mayurbhanj district.

Renowned for his comic roles in movies and tele-serials, Mitra got his big break in Odia film industry with super hit ‘Pua Bhangi Dela Suna Sansar’ movie in 1999.

Thereafter he went on to act in several successful box office movies like ‘Sasti’, ‘Love Station’, ‘Love Pain Kuch Bhi Karega’, ‘Mahanayak’, ‘Gapa Hele Bi Sata’, ‘Sister Sridevi’.

The Ollywood film fraternity poured condolences over the sad demise of Salil.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today extended his condolence on the untimely demise of Odia actor-comedian Salil Mitra.

Patnaik, took to Twitter to express his grief regarding the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
