BJD President Naveen Patnaik made a trip to Kendrapara

Kendrapara :17/5/19: A day after his visit worst cyclone-ravaged Puri, Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik  yesterday   made a trip to Kendrapara, one of the least cyclone-affected areas, to review the relief and restoration work.

Patnaik’s abrupt visit to Kendrapara has taken many by surprise given the fact that he is yet to visit Khurda, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur, which was pulverized by May 3 cyclone ‘Fani’ with normal life yet to be restored in these cyclone-battered villages.

Patnaik, who reviewed the relief and restoration measures at the Collectorate, later announced the establishment of 30 more multi-purpose cyclone shelter buildings in vulnerable cyclone-prone pockets of the district at Rs 60 crore.

Critics tend to believe Patnaik planned his visit to Kendrapara with a eye on Patkura bye election slated to be held in next two months. Veteran politician and BJP candidate Bijoy Mohapatra, one of the vociferous critics of Patnaik, is contesting from the seat in his bid to make entry into State assembly

Mohapatra was one of the founders of the BJD but was unceremoniously ousted from the party by Naveen just before the 2000 assembly polls. Since then, he has not been able to make it to the State assembly.
