BJD President slammed the BJP-led government for ‘hatching a conspiracy to destroy the ecosystem of Chilika lake’

Puri:19/4/19: Odisha Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik on Friday slammed the BJP-led government for ‘hatching a conspiracy to destroy the ecosystem of Chilika lake’.

While addressing a poll rally at Banapur under Puri parliamentary constituency, Patnaik said “Chilika is our pride. It is providing livelihood to thousands of fishermen. The central government had hatched a conspiracy to destroy the Chilika lake”.

The centre is trying to play with the livelihood of fisher folks. I will not allow it to happen, he said.

The centre is trying to stop Kalia direct cash transfer scheme for the farmers. As long as I am alive, nobody can stop this scheme, he said while seeking votes for BJD.

Chilika, country’s largest brackish lake along the east-coast, is one of the hotspot of biodiversity and shelters a number of endangered species listed in the IUCN red list of threatened species. The highly productive eco-system of the lake with its rich fishery resources sustains the livelihood of thousands of fisher folk who live in and around the Lake.
