Urmila Matondkar will contest Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North parliamentary constituency.

Mumbai:29/3/19: Actress-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar will contest election for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha from the Mumbai North parliamentary constituency.

She has joined the Congress earlier this week.

Matondkar was inducted into the party by Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala and Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora in New Delhi on March 27.


“I would like to thank all Congress members, especially Rahul Gandhi ji for giving me a warm welcome. My family works on the principles of Nehru ji and Gandhi ji”, the actress said .

She said freedom of speech is necessary in the country and added that the freedom is in danger.

The actress said she was not here to show glamour, but to stay all through as she has deep faith in the ideology of  Congress.
